Did Christmas start this early last year? Someone jog my memory. I was walking down Wisconsin Ave. today and saw not one, not two, but THREE stores in full Christmastime regalia. The first travesty I came across was at American Eagle. I literally came to a full stop in front of the doors and just stared inside. Part of me desperately wanted to storm in and rip down their plastic garlands and faux trendy red flannel bows (oh, don’t even get me STARTED on how sick I am of flannel this year).

Let’s get serious here for a moment. When did retailers start bypassing Halloween? There is a lot of marketing juice to be squeezed from that holiday. Who doesn’t appreciate a good pumpkin? I sure do. (I’m also particularly fond of Great Pumpkins). And you can get that fake leaf garland. And I’m sure orange and black flannel bows would not be difficult to come by.
I can understand skipping Thanksgiving. It’s a fake holiday anyway, based on an event that never really happened. Stupid Pilgrims. Liars, the lot of them.
But I do likes me some turkey and mashed potatoes.
